There’s been a Newbury Cricket Club since 1822, and the modern sides first played at their home ground on Northcroft Playing Fields in 1947. Today we have three Thames Valley Cricket League sides, plus an occasional Sunday eleven, and a growing junior section catering for all ages from Under 11 upwards.
It’s a special place to play cricket, right in the town centre, with the river along one boundary, and Northcroft lane on the other, and the church spire in the background. In the evening the light across the outfield from a low sun setting beyond Northcroft Leisure Centre can be absolutely beautiful.
We are proud of our traditions at Newbury, and we like to blend competitive cricket with a friendly atmosphere on and off the pitch at all levels. We play to win and talent is rewarded with challenging league cricket, but not at the expense of the game’s traditional values of fair play and team spirit. And there is room for cricketers of all skill levels to practice and play in a team which suits their individual ambitions.
Our juniors are coached by level two ECB qualified coaches, with winter indoor nets for juniors and adults and summer nets and training at our own Northcroft cricket ground.
Newbury Cricket Club is delighted to announce its 2017 winter training dates at The Clere School, Newbury RG20 9HP for senior teams. For junior nets please see below.
This year’s winter training will commence on Thursday, February 16th and will this year be held at Clere School, Burghclere, just south of Newbury. We have chosen this venue for a number of reasons including cost, access at peak traffic times and also viewing areas for parents/visitors.
We will have access to two full length cricket nets and space for fielding practice and other drills.
The junior nets will run every Wednesday commencing on 22nd of February until the 12th of April.
Winter nets will be on from 6PM to 8PM at the St.Bartholomew School sports hall.
The U11s will have their nets and training between 6PM to 7PM and for the U13s and U15s it will be from 7PM to 8PM.
Winter nets for seniors will be on Thursday evenings at:
The dates and times are as stated alongside. Please note that some sessions have a start time of 6pm.
The fees will be £5 per session. Concession fees will be £3.
New junior and senior members will be most welcome, as will ex-players and anybody that is interested in coaching. The club has also purchased innovative and new training equipment which we’ll make use of during these sessions and the popular bowling machine will be available to be booked (details to be communicated) for players to practice their favourite shots or maybe the shots they need most work at.
We really look forward to seeing as many of you there as possible.

Newbury's 2nd team openers, Bil E Beaumont and Vivek Srivastava shared an unbroken stand of 276 last Saturday in just 39 overs, a new record for the club.
To score 276 and to bat unbeaten for 39 overs is a feat, but to do both, on a hot day against a decent bowling attack, is really most excellent. Congratulations to both of them on this achievement.
Bil E in particular is on a roll, as he has now scored 59, 80 and now 123no in the last last 3 innings. During post-match chat Bill E revealed he enjoyed his big six that landed on the Northcroft lane the most.
That said, Vivek outscored Bil E on Saturday with 135no, a fantastic innings in his first season for the club, so well done to both and in Bil E's case in particular, shows that age is just a number and that form is temporary, class is permanent!
This also comes the next weekend after Bil E and Simon Digweed put on 195 for the first wicket for the 2s, so there's a few batsmen that have had their pads on watching the boys bat for quite a while the last couple of weekends.
